It’s here, it’s here!
The Acme Township Placemaking Team is proud to present this report detailing the process that ends in a revitalized East Bay shoreline. In it, you will find a summary of the community’s wishes, the conditions present at the beginning of the project, detailed and illustrated plans, and a program of action to implement them. Enjoy!
Acme Shores: A Placemaking Strategy for the US-31 Shoreline Corridor
The Community Open House held on Wednesday, September 5th from 4 pm to 7 pm was an opportunity to see first-hand conceptual designs that have been developed based on the community input so far. In case you missed it, click on the ‘Concepts’ tab above. There are links to each Board that was displayed on the right side of the page.
The Community Vision Session on June 27 was a terrific success. Seventy-two attendees greeted neighbors, talked with old friends, and made new ones at the lovely Williamsburg Dinner Theater. They enjoyed cookies while they learned a little about placemaking from consultant John Iacoangeli of Beckett & Raeder and a video produced by Northwest Michigan Council of Governments.
Then the citizenry got down to work. In small groups, participants described the character of the community in one word (OK, we let them sneak some phrases in), then voted on them. They identified community assets and liabilities by drawing, writing, and placing dots on large maps of the project area. Potential barriers to progress and organizations that should be enlisted to help were named and voted on. Finally, the groups envisioned Acme Township as they would like it to look ten years down the road, and voted on that too. In the final exercise, each group offered up its top three vote-getters from the “Envision Your Community” list to be written on large sheets of paper and hung up in the back of the room, and attendees voted on their “collective priorities” as the they left the meeting.
The tallied summary of the session is available here:
